The Baltic Sea The Baltic Sea
Surrounded by nine countries, the Baltic is a brackish inland sea covering an area of 432,800 km2 and has only one exit to the North Sea through the Kattegat Strait. With serious problems of pollution and overexploitation (favored by low depth of only 57m on average and up to 459m), its peculiar characteristics and especially the low salinity, make it a unique ecosystem that changes rapidly with latitude.
