Yap Island Yap, the kingdom of the manta ray
Yap Island, famous for being the land of "stone money" is a small paradise of 100 square kilometers in the heart of exotic Micronesia. The coral reefs that surround it are one of the best places in the world to watch one of the most majestic animals of creation: the legendary manta ray, a fish that can reach 5 meters wingspan. It’s a harmless giant which feeds exclusively on plankton and small fish; when the manta swims, it’s like a feeling of flying underwater, gliding with his large wings in slow motion. The mantas are not the only attraction of these coasts for marine nature lovers: the incredible clear waters outside the reef, with a visibility that reaches over 40 meters, let us see hard coral reefs with the appearance of underwater cities. The variety of building corals species is remarkable, as is their conservation and the size reached by some of them, such as Acropora and star corals. Yap Island is a place where cultural traditions and nature come together.
